Supporting Independence in Everyday Life

How Occupational Therapy Helps

Having the right wheelchair prescribed for the right balance of support, comfort and mobility, or modifying the home to improve independence and safety can make a significant difference. Occupational therapy is about these everyday wins because practical changes like these make life easier and more fulfilling.

At Coffs Coast OT, our therapists work with people aged 8 through to adults who are living with disability, recovering from injury, or needing strategies for daily activities. Sessions might include functional skills assessments at home, assistive technology recommendations, or carer training to make sure support is consistent and safe.

It’s care that meets you where you are, whether that’s in the clinic, at home or in a supported living facility, and is always focused on building confidence and participation.

Your Goals, Our Evidence-Based Approach

Our Process and Approach

Every journey starts with listening. We begin by learning about your routines, your environment, and the challenges that matter most to you and your family. From there, we design an individualised plan, whether that’s a wheelchair and seating prescription, sensory processing support, or preparing detailed NDIS reports to secure the right housing and equipment.

Our occupational therapists don’t work in isolation. They collaborate with neurophysiotherapists, speech pathologists, exercise physiologists and our wider allied health team at Health on High. This ensures your progress is supported from every angle, with strategies that fit into real life, not just the clinic.

Just as importantly, we invest in training for carers, support workers and families, so everyone has the knowledge and confidence to continue progress at home and in the community.

I have just completed post knee replacement Physiotherapy at Health on high. The staff, from reception to the trained personnel were engaging, friendly and above all very professional and explained the ensuing treatment fully and the expected outcomes. I cannot recommend Health on High strongly enough for any post operative Physiotherapy.

I have been seen by physio’s at this practice and in Baringa Private Hospital for years. Have always found them to be very knowledgeable, caring and professional at all times. Family owned and operated they are all very friendly and offer all kinds of treatments. Rose Ave has a small gym available also. Highly recommend for all your physio needs.

Physiotherapy supports movement, strength and physical rehabilitation. Occupational therapy focuses on using those abilities in daily life, such as self care, work, school and community activities, to complex wheelchair scripting and home modifications. At Health on High, both services often work together so that progress in the clinic translates into independence and participation day to day.

Assistive technology is a phrase used to describe any equipment that can assist with, improve, or develop skills for participation in daily activities. It covers a wide range of supports, from complex customised equipment such as hoists or postural positioning seating systems, through to toileting or cooking aids.
